The right underlay improves comfort underfoot, extends the life of the floor covering, and boosts thermal and acoustic insulation. We stock acoustic underlays for sound reduction in flats and offices, heavy-domestic grades for busy homes, and combination underlays designed for use over underfloor heating.

All of our underlay is supplied in trade roll sizes for efficient installation and competitive pricing on larger jobs. If you need help calculating coverage or matching tog ratings and density to a specification, phone our team and we'll point you to the best underlay for the project.

What to check before you order

  • Underlay is sold by the roll — check the roll coverage on the product page and round up to whole rolls.
  • Carpet underlay and hard-floor underlay are not interchangeable; laminate, LVT and wood need a firmer, thinner product.
  • Over underfloor heating, choose an underlay rated for that use and keep the total tog low so the heat reaches the room.
  • For flats and offices, check whether an acoustic rating is specified before ordering.

Underlay questions

How much underlay do I need?
Take the room area in square metres, add an allowance for cuts, then divide by the roll coverage shown on the product page and round up to the next whole roll.
Can I use underlay with underfloor heating?
Only where the product states it is suitable. A high-tog carpet underlay insulates the floor and reduces heat output, so a low-tog underlay designed for heated floors should be used instead.
