Can I install underfloor heating myself?

The heating mat or cable can be laid by a competent DIYer, but the final electrical connection into a fused spur/consumer unit and RCD must be completed and certified by a qualified electrician in line with UK Part P and BS 7671.

What warranty do ThermoSphere products have?

All ThermoSphere heating cables, mats, membranes and foils carry a lifetime manufacturer warranty when installed to instructions. Thermostats and accessories carry a manufacturer warranty of 2–5 years depending on the model.

Is electric underfloor heating expensive to run?

Running cost depends on room size, insulation and thermostat schedule. For a well-insulated bathroom used 2 hours/day, running cost is typically 30–60p/day. A programmable or Wi-Fi thermostat with adaptive start is the single biggest saver.

Which floors are compatible with underfloor heating?

Tile and natural stone are ideal. LVT, vinyl, laminate and engineered wood are all compatible — check the manufacturer's max floor surface temperature (usually 27 °C). Solid wood and thick carpet with high tog underlay are generally not recommended.

Heating cables suit irregular room shapes and let you space runs to hit a target watt/m². Heating mats are pre-spaced on a mesh backing and roll out fast in square/rectangular rooms — the quickest install for tile bathrooms and kitchens. Heating foils are ultra-thin and designed for floating floors (laminate, engineered wood, click LVT) where you don't want to raise floor height. Foils are not suitable under tile.

Electric underfloor heating for a typical 4 m² bathroom starts around £120 for a heating mat and £60 for a thermostat. Larger open-plan areas of 15–25 m² typically cost £350–£700 for the heating system plus thermostat. Our systems are trade-priced up to 39% below RRP.
